PIANO LESSONS
for children & adults

No matter the age or level of experience, Sadie focuses on cultivating both ear-training and sight-reading skills, helping the student advance toward complete fluency in the language of music.

My Teaching Philosophy and Approach

f

Since beginning as a teacher to neighborhood children at the age of thirteen, Sadie has been developing and perfecting her teaching methods for over 18 years.

Her approach builds upon a classical foundation, providing each student with the fundamental musical blocks of technique, note-reading, ear-training and theory while advancing through the classical repertoire.

Once these building blocks are attained, each student will be assured the skills necessary to be versatile in exploring all genres of the music world.

During the 18 years of her teaching, Sadie has worked with a variety of ages and experiences and has developed an effective approach that is grounded in the belief that …

… music is a language and should be taught like one.

f

When taking on very young students (ages 5 and younger), she works hard to immerse the student in music-making before music-reading in the same way as a child learns to mimic his parents’ words before later learning how to read.

Given the immediate gratification of making music, the child moves forward from day one with confidence and joy.

No matter the age or level of experience, Sadie focuses on cultivating both ear-training and sight-reading skills, helping the student advance toward complete fluency in the language of music.

As a passionate pedagogue always striving to improve her methods, she works hard to offer each student her expertise in teaching methods while being sensitive and attending to each student’s unique style of learning.

How the Payment and Teaching Policy works

TEACHING POLICY:

During the School Year (September - June):

  • A flat monthly studio membership reserves a weekly time slot for your child in my studio for the school year. The membership includes weekly lessons, recitals, groups classes, assignment sheets, and opportunities to participate in workshops.

  • You will have the option to pay by card or by ACH. I use the payment processor Stripe, which allows for safe transfer of funds via card or direct bank transfer.

During the Summer (July and August):

  • The school year membership concludes at the end of June. During the summer months (July and August), a minimum payment of 4 lessons will be due on July 1st to reserve a slot in my studio for the upcoming school year. The lessons, if taken, will expire on September 1st and must be scheduled during the months of July and August. These can be scheduled with great flexibility, however, and do not have to adhere to a set weekly time (a scheduling link will be sent out to you at the end of June for optimum simplicity in scheduling these summer lessons).

CANCELLATION POLICY:

  • It is the responsibility of the student to keep the reserved weekly lesson slot. If a student must miss, the lesson will still be charged to hold their weekly time slot with me.

  • If your schedule changes and you can no longer make the weekly lesson slot, I ask that you notify me a month in advance (month in progress cannot be rescheduled or refunded)

What if my child needs to miss a lesson?

  • Your membership pays to reserve a specific time slot in my schedule, and it is the responsibility of the student and parent to keep that weekly piano lesson time. In the event that a student must miss, I will do my best to find an alternative time for you, but makeups are never guaranteed. Please keep in mind that makeups must always be scheduled during the same month that the lesson is missed.

*Holiday/Break Exceptions:

There will be no lessons held during Thanksgiving Break (Wednesday before Thanksgiving — Saturday after), Winter Holiday (December 24th—January 1st), Labor Day and Memorial Day.

During the Summer (July & August): A minimum payment of 4 lessons total for the summer months is due on the 1st of July to reserve a slot in my studio for the upcoming school year and to ensure continuing progress over the summer. The lessons, if taken, will expire on September 1st and must be scheduled during the months of July and August.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

It is the responsibility of the student to keep the reserved weekly lesson slot. If a student must miss, the lesson will be charged to hold their weekly time slot with me. In the event of sudden illness, emergency, or extreme weather condition, a makeup may be made and will be discerned on an individual basis. However, please be mindful that lessons may never be refunded or made up due to the following:

  • school or after school activities

  • social conflict

  • travels taken outside of holidays or breaks

  • lack of preparation

If your schedule changes and you can no longer make the weekly lesson slot, I ask that you notify me a month in advance (month in progress cannot be rescheduled or refunded)

2 days per school term will be offered as makeup sessions for 2 missed lessons

*Holiday/Break Exceptions:

There will be no lessons held during Thanksgiving Break (Wednesday before Thanksgiving — Saturday after) & Winter Holiday (December 24th—January 1st)

Lessons may be missed and not charged if they fall during the above scheduled breaks, on a Federal Holiday, or during the week of your school’s Spring Break
