Month 1: Medieval & Renaissance Eras
Cathedrals of Polyphony
In our first month we journey hundreds of years into the past to learn how the first composers started to layer music into complex musical structures that resembled the Medieval & Renaissance cathedrals of Europe. We’ll learn about the very first 5 composers of Western classical music, how the two essential musical ingredients of rhythm & pitch were developed into an intricate musical language that involved musical “spelling” and “grammar”, and how the Medieval & Renaissance Eras gave the world the foundation it needed for music to take off as a universal language.
